Darren Mansaram is facing a race against time to be fit for Sligo Rovers clash with struggling Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds on Sunday next.

The striker, who is available for selection after serving a one match ban, is struggling with a hamstring injury and will face a late fitness test before manager, Sean Connor, names his team for the Bray assignment.

“Darren will have intensive treatment on his injury over the next few days and we’ll give him a late fitness test before the Bray game”, the manager explained.

Although the County Wicklow side are rooted to the bottom of the table and are still searching for their first league win of the season, Connor is anticipating a tough challenge at the Carlisle Grounds.

“Bray will be really motivated for this one because they will look on it as an ideal opportunity to get their first win of the campaign”, he warned

“That’s the sort of challenge we’ll have to be ready for. It will be a difficult game but one we are capable of winning.

“Our home form has been very good this year and, to be honest, we’ve played quite well in most of our away games as well without getting any reward. Last week’s result against Drogheda was good for our confidence and we’ll go to Bray with a very positive attitude and try to get all three points”, he added.

Reflecting on last week’s scoreless draw with league leaders, Drogheda, Connor said he was pleased with his side’s overall performance and felt they were well worth a share of the spoils.

“I would admit that Drogheda were the better team in the first half but I felt we had the edge in the second period and created the best chance to win the game.

“After losing two matches in a row, I think we felt a bit sorry for ourselves in the first half and we were very nervous. But once we got that sorted out at half time, we played much better and could have won the game.

“Given that Drogheda are a top of the table side and we’ve just come up to the Premier division, it was a good effort by us and, hopefully, we can go on from here”, said Connor.

Sunday’s game has a 3.15pm kick off.
