Rovers get ready for Friday nights at home PDF Print E-mail

Active ImageSLIGO Rovers manager Sean Connor has thrown his support behind the decision of the club’s Management Committee to move some of the club’s forthcoming Premier Division home fixtures to Friday nights.
Saturday night has traditionally hosted Rovers’ weekend matches at The Showgrounds, and some fans, who voted at the start of the season to keep the matches on Saturdays, have expressed dissatisfaction with the plans.

But attendances for home matches have been poor this season, despite the fact that Rovers are unbeaten in the top flight at The Showgrounds, and the decision was made to switch to Fridays to try to bolster ticket sales and income ahead of the July transfer window.

Connor said: “The gates have been disappointing so I think it is a brave move and I think the Management Committee and the people at the club have got to be commended for their efforts. They are trying everything to raise the money to push the club forward.”

Rovers next match at home is on Monday next against high-flying Derry City but before that they face Bohemians in Dublin this Friday.
