Sligo Rovers season came to a close last night as they drew 1-1 with Bray Wanderers in the Carlisle Grounds. That result means that Rovers finished 5th in the Eircom League Premier Division in what was new manager Rob McDonald’s first game
Rovers dominated the opening stages of the game but against the run of play it was the home side who took the lead in the 22nd minute as Paul Caffrey played the ball low into the feet of Kieran “Tarzan” O’Brien who laid it off for Andrei Georgescu and he shot low into the bottom corner. Rovers were forced into making their first change soon after as Sean Kelly came on for the injured Keith Foy. They could have drawn level on the half hour mark as a cross from the right by Gavin Peers took a deflection off a Bray defender which looped it up for Adam Hughes who headed it across to Paul McTiernan but his close range header was kept out by a great reaction save from Bray keeper Gary Rogers. Rovers were then reduced to ten in the 38th minute as Choice Aisien received a straight red card after an off the ball incident involving Bray defender Chris Deans. Two minutes later though and again McTiernan was denied by Rogers as he played a good 1-2 inside the box with Hughes and was through 1 on 1 but he was denied by the legs of the Bray keeper.
