Sligo Rovers took a big step towards securing Premier Division status for 2007 this week, having received confirmation that they have secured the Premier Division licence for 2007.
Chairman of the Development Committee, Ray Gallagher, who is also the club’s FAI representative, was understandably delighted at the news when he spoke to sligorovers.com. “Getting the licence is the fruit of many years labour. We are particularly pleased because we are one of only a handful of clubs to have been awarded the premier Division licence without any sanction. “The next step now is to secure election to the new FAI-run league. The last couple of seasons have improved our rating significantly in terms of performance on the field, but that’s only part of the story. The Independent Assessment Group (IAG) have to take account of other off- the-field criteria in arriving at their decision. “The IAG have been mandated by the club’s to make a decision based on the criteria set down by the FAI and all clubs will have to abide by that. There is a level of uncertainty at this stage, but getting the Premier licence is a very positive development and as a result we are very hopeful that Sligo Rovers will take their place in the FAI Premiership next season,” Gallagher concluded. |
