Sligo Rovers this afternoon welcomed the decision of the IAG in inviting the Bit O’Red to take part in next year’s inaugural FAI-ran Premier Division.
Speaking to sligorovers.com, the club’s FAI representative, Ray Gallagher, was delighted. ”We have made great progress both on and off the field in recent seasons and that progress has ensured that we will hold on to a place in the new league. It’s now up to everyone associated with the club to work twice as hard as before to ensure that we stay at the top. “We’ve also received confirmation from the FAI that the club will benefit from a further €70,000 in 2006 Sports Capital Grants. This will money will be of huge benefit in finalising improvements to the Showgrounds ahead of the new season. I’d like to pay tribute to Minister John O’Donoghue, local representative and the FAI who have been of great assistance in advancing our application,” he concluded. The league will kick-off in mid March and will include both Shamrock Rovers and Galway United, whilst Waterford United will be relegated to Division One. |
