In what is the first fundraising initiative for 2007, Sligo Rovers will be hosting a Poker Texas Hold-em tournament in the Radisson Hotel Sligo on Sunday 25 February next. The Texas Hold-em craze, familiar to late-night Sky TV viewers, is sweeping across Ireland and poker fans in the North West will get the chance to take the first prize of a car on the night. Hughie Blain, who is organising the event on behalf of the Sligo Rovers Management Committee, is infectious in his enthusiasm. “People will be coming from all over the country to play. I’ve already had enquiries from Galway and Tralee - the level of interest in this is huge. It’s great entertainment, it’s easy to play - even for people who don’t normally play poker and the Radisson is the perfect venue for a fundraiser of this size. “The main prize is a car and there will substantial cash prizes, up to €10,000. There will also be spot prizes of season tickets and Rovers jerseys at different times during the evening. The game is being run professionally by celticpokertour.com so players will know that it’s being done right,” he concluded. Anyone interested in sponsoring prizes, or requiring more detail of the event should contact Hughie at 087 957 3526.
