O'Grady reflects on Derry game. PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 20 March 2007
If there is one thing you say about Sligo Rovers in 2007 it is that things can change very quickly in a few days and that situation occured again last Saturday. The victory in Galway was treated with excitment and anticipation for the first home game but a Derry City side with a lot of quality quickly dashed the hopes of continuing the great start to the season with a professional performance. Midfielder Conor O' Grady pointed to the lack of resources at the club compared to Derry as the reason they fell to a 2-0 defeat

"If you look at the resources they have and the resources we have it is a massive difference .I am disappointed, we gave away two goals in the last 15 minutes of the first half. If we are being honest they are what he have to strive to be.We do not have the resources they have and they were by far the better team today. The lads gave it everything in the secon d half and you couldn 't ask for much more really. We showed a lot of character and had a few chances."

He added

"We actually had a great chance with Jay[Jason McCartney] in the first half and if that had gone you do not know what would have happened. But Derry are so well drilled, you can see that from when Stephen Kenny was there and now Pat Fenlon continuing it on. As I say that is what we have to strive to be and we are a long way off right now. Last week was a great result but I think we were getting a bit too excited. It is going to be very hard "

O Grady now faces the club he almost joined a number of weeks ago, Longford Town. The game is a big test for the side as they look to bounce back in winning style at a ground they enjoyed a lot of success at last season.

" Massive game, absolutely massive game. We need to get something out of it. They are in the same position as us and they will be fighting like us to get to the top of the so called second league[outside the top 4].We have to go down and give it everything. We will probably have a few players missing, Chrissy Turner is away with the U21's [Northern Ireland] I think and Gary Curran ,  who had a horrible challenge on him today, will hopefully be alright, but I don't think he will be available. As we are at the moment we are down to the bare bones so without a few others it will be tough ".
