Rovers continued their unbeaten away form at the start of the new season by recording a  1-0 victory over Longford Town in Flancare Park tonight(Friday 23rd) . The winning goal came courtesy of Faz Kudozovic and moves the Bit O'Red up to 4th in the table.

Caretaker management team Leo Tierney and Dessie Cawley made 3 changes from the side that were beaten 2-0 vs. Derry City last weekend. Seamus Coleman, Choice Aisien and Adam Hughes all came into the side. In what is proving to be a common occurrence it was the Bit O' Red who made the better start. The returning Adam Hughes was heavily involved in the opening exchanges, having 2 chances inside the 15 minutes. Both strikers failed to trouble the Longford goal but it was an encouraging start for Rovers. The first half was a scrappy affair with little to report on and apart from the opening quarter Rovers did not offer much on the offensive. Longford began to cause Rovers problems and although Richard Brush was never forced into making a significant save the gaps in the defence were worrying with Ian Wexler and David Freeman finding space to have efforts on goal. Keith Foy had to be replaced on the half hour mark with Sean Kelly taking his place in a youthful backline.

Rovers came out for the second half and found their rhythm very early on. Seamus Coleman, who put in a sensational performance on the night, embarked on a run that took him by numerous Longford players and just prior to entering the Town penalty box he was upended by Kevin Doherty. With Rovers not having their usual set piece takers on the pitch it was left to Fahrudin Kudozovic and Jason Mc Cartney to take the responsibility. Mc Cartney ran over it and the Bosnian took advantage of the big gap left by the goalkeeper Kelly and confidently curled the ball into the net to give his side the advantage.

At this stage the second half was just 4 minutes old and Rovers knew they would have to defend stoutly as the half went on. Another moment of Richard Brush magic on the hour mark kept the clean sheet intact, Ian Wexler found himself with time and space after beating the offside trap but fan's favourite Brush spread himself and he blocked the ball. The save was greeted as if it was a goal for the Bit O' Red by the travelling support, such was the quality.

Seamus Coleman and Steve Manson, who were both making their second starts for the club, dominated the right side throughout the game and a lot of the attacks the side created came from the two.As the game went on Town began to tire and Rovers began to create some clear chances. Conor O' Grady made a powerful dash into the box but his shot was over the bar. Choice Aisien forced Kelly into a fine save just under his bar and Jason Mc Cartney's shot from distance brought another fine save from the Longford stopper.

The defence held out well in the closing stages and were dealing with Longford's long ball approach. Piotr Badjiak and Gino O' Boyle came on in the closing stages for their competitive debuts. The final chance of the game came in the 91st minute and it fell to the home side. Dave Mooney forcing Brush into a crucial save and the relief was monumental for players and coaches. It secured another win on the road for the Bit O' Red and they stay in the top half with 6 points from a possible 9 so far this season.
