Following the hard fought 1-0 win over Longford Town last Friday night Leo Tierney spoke to sligorovers.com about all aspects of the game and the excellent start the side has made to the season

Overall thoughts and reaction to the game:

" We are delighted, we were a little disappointed in the first half because we did not play as well as we know we are capable of but at half time we had a few words, got a few things sorted out and the lads were super in the second half. I think overall we deserved the victory. We really raised the tempo in the second half because we knew we had not done ourselves justice and we were saying we were only playing at about 50% of what we were capable of. In the second half we showed more, we played some good football and tried to get it down and pass it.We had a go and that’s what the fans were looking for, to have a go and to attack and we did that.

The winning goal and the goal scorer Fahrudin Kudozivic

“It was an absolute super finish. We were saying before the game that his workrate in the opening two games has been absolutely nothing short of brilliant. He deserved a goal for his workrate alone and he got his rewards tonight. It was a clever one because Jason left it for him and it was nice to see it work"

Man of the Match Seamus Coleman

“He did very well. Seamus has great potential. It was a super run for the goal. Maybe he could have gone on but he was brought down. We have been telling him to believe in himself and go and do that and that what we have been encouraging all the players to do,to take responsibility and go and play football"

The spirit of the team and new players coming into the team.

" It was important that the players that came in did well and that they could believe in themselves to do that. Seamus did very well as i said. Stevie[ Steve Manson], he did great again tonight and he is going to be a great player for Sligo Rovers. We got an extra ten minutes out of him this week. He did very well and worked really hard for us. Choice started this week,he did very well and worked really hard for us. Last week Choice wasn't 100% fit and we had to keep that to ourselves and he came on and did what he had to do.All over the park we were good, I thought at the back we were super. Brushy with another great save to help us on the way. The boys are all together and there is a great spirit about us. We showed that last week in the second half and we showed it again tonight, and when we get the ball down and play.... we can play."

International clearance for players and the 2 debutants

“It was super to see the lads at last get clearance so they give us a little bit of strength in depth now. Piotr is going to be a good player,he can play. Gino did super, his heart is with Sligo Rovers,he wants to play with Sligo Rovers and these are the players we need at this club at this time for us"

Bouncing back from the disappointment of Derry

"Last week people were disappointed but you have got to put it into perspective. Derry are a very good side. We know we can get the results against the teams we can feel we are capable of beating and that if we play well we will get the results and tonight it was important we got the three points"

The Red Army on Tour

" Tonight the supporters on the road were absolutley super for us. They really give us a lift in the first half and kept us going and they gave us a lift in the second half again just when we were getting tired they gave us the encouragement. It was great to hear them singing"

The upcoming game vrs UCD and the poor record against the side

" That will be another difficult game for us,those bogey things have to be put to bed sooner rather than later and for us we are hoping next week we can put the UCD bogey to bed"

What it has been like being manager of Sligo Rovers

" It has been great, it has been hard but I have enjoyed it. The players are very good to work with and despite what has been written and said in some places there is nothing wrong with the spirit of Sligo Rovers or our players"
