Nine points out of a possible 12, it has been a great start for the caretaker management duo of Leo Tierney and Dessie Cawley. Following the 1-0 victory over UCD Tierney spoke to sligorovers.com about the game

“It’s a good start. We are very, very happy with it. Today’s game I thought we deserved to win it in the end. It was scrappy in the first half, in the second half we made some very good chances that we were unlucky not to take and the goal that won it probably wasn’t the best chance we had all day but it was great to see it go in”

The Rovers hero was again Fahrudin Kudozovic who for the second week in a row got the winner for the Bit O’ Red. His manager singled him out for praise

“Some people are finally starting to realize how good a player he is. The work he put in for the team and the link play for us was very good and I was delighted for him.”

The goal arrived in the final minute of the game and Rovers endured a nervy  and frustrating time up to the breakthrough, Tierney was just happy it eventually came

“Sometimes you would be worried they might get something off a set piece but I think we deserved to win it for the hard work we put in. We were saying at half time that “if we have to go to the last minute we will take it in the last minute” and thankfully it went in for us”

He also revealed there had been no developments on the position of full time Sligo Rovers manager and he did not know when there would be.

An injury to Gavin Peers marred the victory and after the game Tierney said he feared the defender had suffered a broken ankle. However it seems this is not the case and it seems it is only ligament damage. The knock will probably keep Peers out of contention for a number of weeks and this will give Kevin Julian and Zoltan Vasas the chance to compete for a first team spot. Leo spoke of the Hungarians progress

“He played for the U21’s in Mayo on Wednesday. He is getting there and his fitness is coming back. Zoltan now comes into the equation. That’s what we knew, we need played and it is going to be interesting”

Next up for Rovers is a trip to Dalymount Park and a reunion with former manager Sean Connor who is now in charge of Bohemians. The gypsies have several former Rovers players in their squad and the caretaker manager admits there is an extra edge to the game for all involved

“Bohs away is a great game; it has been a great fixture in history: Bohs vs. Sligo Rovers. Obviously there is an extra bit of spice to it now, we are looking forward to it with confidence and we will give it a go”
