Bray Wanderers were comfortable 2-0 winners against Sligo Rovers in their Eircom League of Ireland Premier Division which was played in a blustery Carlisle Grounds last Friday evening. Despite a bright start Rovers failed to produce anything like the football that they played against Cork City and they failed to trouble Bray keeper Steve Williams for the majority of the game.

Williams though was called into action twice inside the first four minutes as he denied first Fahrudin Kudozovic and then Rafael Cretaro. The game turned though when Bray took the lead in the 13th minute as Sligo native Alan Cawley swung in a corner from the left which was met by the right foot of Clive Delaney who flicked the ball in off the underside of the crossbar. Rovers were forced into making a change in the 16th minute as Zoltan Vasas came on for the injured Gavin Peers. Rovers could have gone in level at the break as Rafael Cretaro’s header from a Chris Turner corner hit off a defender looped up and was touched onto the crossbar by Williams.

Whatever chances there were in the second half went the way of the home side as despite having some good spells of possession Rovers failed to create any clear cut chances. Bray doubled their lead on the hour mark as Stephen Fox played the ball out left to Gary McCabe and his curling right foot shot beat Rovers keeper Richard Brush only to hit off the crossbar and while the Rovers defence stood static Andrei Georgescu took advantage to shoot home the loose ball. It was Bray who went closest to scoring again when in the 87th minute Cawley sprung the Rovers offside trap as he picked out John Broderick on the right but Vasas got back well to block his shot. Rovers are away again this coming Friday as they take on high fliers St. Patrick’s Athletic in Richmond Park.
