Sligo Rovers 2 (Hughes 48; Judge 75)

Sligo Rovers ended 25 years without a league win at Belfield Park when second half goals from Adam Hughes and Matt Judge deservedly gave them the three Premier Division points against an out of sorts UCD.

Paul Cook's Westerners have thus recorded a notable treble over Dublin clubs having beaten Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians in their previous two outings to move into sixth place in the table.

Veteran skipper Tony McDonnell went close for College on six minutes after collecting a ball from striker Conor Sammon at the edge of the box. But the midfielder's snap shot was brilliantly pushed over the bar by alert Sligo 'keeper Richard Brush.

A slip by Sligo central defender Jamie McKenzie almost allowed the Students to break the deadlock on 29 minutes. Sammon was able to grab possession ten yards from goal, but Brush was quickly off his line to block the effort.

In added time of the first half, another Doyle effort from close range was just wide of the target after the opening had been created on the right by winger Conan Byrne and striker Paul Byrne.

Hughes had Sligo in front on 48 minutes when he fired home from 12 yards past the advancing Matt Gregg in the College goal after Stephen Manson and Matt Judge had opened up the home defence.

The Students went close to an equaliser when first Brush did well to dive full length to save from Sammon and then Doyle shot inches past the far post when it seemed he must score.

Referee Mark Gough correctly allowed play to continue when Turner was fouled by Alan McNally. His header fell perfectly for Judge who calmly rounded 'keeper Gregg and defender Mahon before stroking the ball into the unguarded net on 75 minutes.

UCD - Gregg; Mahon, Kenna, McNally, Bermingham (Crowley 45 +2); C.Byrne, McFaul, McDonnell, Doyle (Fitzgerald 62); P.Byrne, Sammon (Purcell 79).

Sligo Rovers - Brush; Coleman, Peers, McKenzie, Kelly; Cash (Cretaro 61), O'Grady, Hughes, Manson; Kuduzovic (Turner 17), Judge.

Referee - Mark Gough (Limerick).
