A European Championship medal winner with Brian Kerr's under 16s in 1998, Keith Foy's left foot has won the hearts and minds of fans wherever he has played and Sligo has been no different. He talks to Club Promotions Officer, Sinead Fraher.
This is the Dublin native’s second season playing with the Bit o Red Jersey but although he is only 25, he has already been playing professional football for an amazing ten years. Keith has played for the English Clubs Nottingham Forest and Doncaster and since his return to Ireland has donned the shirts of St. Patrick’s Athletic and Dublin City in his home town, as well as Monaghan United. Foy burst onto the professional football scene when he played on the Under 16 Ireland team who won the European Championships against Italy in 1998, scoring the winning goal in the final in true ‘Roy of the Rovers’ fashion. ![]() Keith really loves living in Sligo which he now considers his second home. Like the other players on the Sligo Rovers Team Keith really loves how Sligo Rovers are at the heart of the community in Sligo. He really enjoys getting off the pitch and getting to meet the people who go to the matches. These are the people who really make the match memorable for him. When asked how he feels about how the Eircom League of Ireland is progressing, he remarked that since he came back to work in Ireland that the standard of football and facilities in the league have improved. When he is not playing Football Keith really likes to get away from the whole soccer environment and likes to relax by playing poker with his team mates. He may take risks on the poker table, but in his own words, he never gambles on the pitch. |
