Sligo Rovers 2 (Kudozovic (pen) 55; Cretaro 65)
Longford Town 1 (Wexler 19)

Two goals in the space of ten second-half minutes saw Sligo Rovers come from 1-0 down to beat Longford Town 2-1 at the Showgrounds.

Fahrudin Kuduzovic and Raffaele Cretaro claimed the strikes that earned Rovers their fourth win on the bounce and left bottom club Longford facing their second narrow defeat in the space of five days.

The match started at a lively pace, with Damien Brennan forced to block an early Cretaro shot after Seamus Coleman and Kuduzovic had grafted down the right.

Coleman and Matthew Judge were also off target after creating space for themselves in the box, but Rovers keeper Richard Brush was also called into action, saving at the feet of Dave Mooney on 15 minutes.

And the visitors went ahead four minutes later, as Mooney’s close control created space for Patrick Sullivan to swing a dangerous ball in the area, and Ian Wexler flashed a diving header past Brush.

Longford grew in confidence after this and continued to threaten down the right, although a wayward Sullivan shot was the closest they came to hitting a second.

Conor O’Grady almost got Rovers level on 40 minutes with a piledriver from well outside the box, but Longford keeper Shay Kelly was behind it all the way.

Rovers made two changes at the break, with Gary Curran and Keith Foy introduced, and they had their first chance of the second period just two minutes in as Kuduzovic headed Cash’s cross over the top.

But Rovers’ assistant boss Gerry Carr was sent to the stands soon after as he argued a decision and the home side began to let their frustrations show.

Their efforts were rewarded however, on 56 minutes after Sean Prunty took down Cash in the box. Kuduzovic stepped up to net from the spot for the second time in successive home games.

Longford would have went ahead again just after the hour-mark had Brush not got a vital block as Mooney chased Martin’s cross. Instead Rovers got the themselves in front when Judge’s pinpoint cross picked out Cretaro, and he rifled a header past the helpless Kelly.

The high tempo continued and Longford were almost level minutes later as Dave Freeman headed Mooney’s delivery onto the post.

But Rovers nearly wrapped it up late on when Kuduzovic saw a stunning effort come back of the underside of the crossbar, and Curran also hit the woodwork with a follow-up effort.
