Sligo Rovers manager speaks to sligorovers.com to give his thoughts on the defeat to Bohemians last week and the upcoming clash against eircom League table-toppers Drogheda United in United Park on Friday night.
Rovers put in a tremendous performance in Dalymount for large parts and were unlucky to be on the end of a 3-0 defeat. Cook took positives from the game and accepted his side’s misfortune. “Football is a weird and funny game sometimes. Sometimes you have to be able to accept getting beaten because sometimes you can not do anything about it. Friday night was certainly one of those nights. We had a couple of great chances on the night. We went there to be hard to break down. And when you go to a team like Bohs and they don’t have a shot on goal in a half then you know you must be doing something right.” Cook believes Rovers still have a “great chance” of qualifying for Europe but with only six games to go the pressure is now on the team. “I don’t think Europe is out of the question in any shape or form. As I keep telling people if you do not believe then it is not worth doing. That is my big argument and I believe we have a great chance. But to get into Europe you have to start winning games.” Rovers now travel to Drogheda United, who are on the brink of winning their first ever league title. Cook is confident his side can bounce back “It’s a great game. It is great to be involved in games like that. At the moment we have a great bunch of lads who give everything and it is great to be involved. They were bitterly disappointed after the game Friday night. But you see by the crowd’s reaction at the end of the game when the players left the pitch, because when Sligo Rovers fans go away from home they want to see the players give everything… and I think they saw that. We’ll see what happens this Friday. We are all looking forward to the game and confident of getting a result.” Seamus Coleman will be suspended for the game this Friday night with Daniel Ventre likely to deputise. More team news will appear on sligorovers.com later this week By Rory Houston |
