Cook looks ahead to big kick off PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 06 March 2008
A 4-1 victory over Athlone Town concluded pre season for the Bit o'Red, Paul Cook spoke to sligorovers.com as we countdown to the big kick off on Friday.

'We do not read too much into pre season games. We are pleased that we have won. It was difficult conditions and we are glad it is out of the way. No we look forward to St Pats on Friday.'

The team have amassed 16 goals in the four games they have played but they have been mostly against teams in the lower divisions. Cook is wary of the fact Rovers have conceded in each game against Eircom League opposition.

'I think from watching us we have goals in us. The worry is we have not kept a clean sheet and I think what we will be in for is a big shock next week when we go to St Pats because we will be jumping up in standard. We have to be very careful with what we are doing and concentrate on next week.'

He added: 'Confidence is always high at our club. We encourage people to play and pass. People are pleased we have won but again like I say we are disappointed we conceded a goal because that was the target Saturday- to keep a clean sheet.'

The talking is nearly done and all of the work that has been done in the previous weeks will be put to the test. Cook concluded by stating what he thinks is most relevant as he approaches his first full season as Sligo Rovers manager

We're all looking forward to the start of the season which is the most important thing
