Four new faces from the squad which beat Slovakia 2-0 are included - Brendan Clarke and Joseph O Cearuill from St Patrick’s Athletic along with Shane Guthrie of Cobh Ramblers and Ruari Higgins from Derry City.

The Republic of Ireland currently lie in second position in their group following an excellent win over Slovakia in Dalymount Park last November leaving Fenlon’s charges in a very strong position to challenge for qualification to the International Challenge Trophy knock-out stages.

Fenlon has chosen a strong squad for the tie including both goal scorers, Gavin Peers and Killian Brennan, from the match against Slovakia. The Republic of Ireland’s scoring potential is further underlined by the presence of the top two goal scorers from the 2007 eircom League season, Dave Mooney and Mark Quigley.

Joseph O Cearuill, who has played at senior international level having made his debut against Ecuador in May 2007, also makes the squad.

“We got off to a great start in this tournament against Slovakia and we must build on this against Northern Ireland. We know from the Setanta Cup that it will be a tough tie away from home but we are looking forward to the challenge,” said manager Pat Fenlon.

Bohemians manager Fenlon announced his selection at the FAI Headquarters in Abbotstown where he met new Republic of Ireland senior manager Giovanni Trapattoni (left), who will be officially unveiled to the public tomorrow at the RDS in Dublin.

The Irish squad will assemble in Dublin on May 11th ahead of the match which takes place on Tuesday, May 13th, in Lurgan with kick a 7.45pm kick off.
