A nicely worked goal by Seamus Coleman helped Rovers climb up to 4th tonight with a comprehensive victory over a high flying Bray Wanderers side. In the dying minutes, Seamie picked up the ball in midfield there was only one thing on his mind as he drove towards goal playing a neat one-two with Faz Kuduzovic before finding himself one on one with O'Connor and calmly placing the ball in the bottom right hand corner of the net with his left boot. Before kick off there would have been some wariness due to Brays recent good form , Rovers making a number of changes from the side that lost to Cork City the week previously. Jamie McKenzie and Chris Butler were suspended due to red cards in that encounter so in came Anto Murphy and Gavin Peers. Rommy Boco had succumbed to injury so Matthew Judge was given his first start of the season. And indeed it was Judge who got Rovers opening goal after only 8 minutes. Anto Murphy launched one of his familiar long throws from the left , Brian Cash went up with O'Connor to challenge, the ball eventually breaking to Judge whose looping header went into the net.
This early goal gave the Bit O'Red great confidence and for the remainder of the half they were the dominant force. A few minutes later Faz went close with a dink over the keeper which went agonizingly wide. Last years terrible twosome Judge and Faz were linking up well again and on 24 minutes they combined to set up Cash for a shot that went just wide of the post. Into the second half and Rovers kept the pressure on with Kuduzovic making probing passes one of which found Raffaele Cretaro but he was adjudged to be offside. The second goal duly came 10 minutes later when great work by the tireless Conor O'Grady ended up with him playing the ball to Faz on the edge of the area , He then ghosted past three Bray defenders and flashed a shot into the top right hand corner of the net to double the Rovers lead. After this Bray upped the tempo and had a rare chance when the ageless Colm Tresson appeared from right back in the Rovers box but his volley from Sligoman Alan Cawleys cross was too close to Richard Brush. Indeed they had an even better chance with 10 minutes to go when Derek Forans shot hit the post from a corner .
Rovers had further chances to extend the lead with Faz and sub Steve Feeney missing one on one chances, until the third duly arrived when Coleman produced that piece of magic. All in all a good performance from the Bit O'Red who have now kept 6 clean sheets in 11 games. All eyes will now be on the meeting with league leaders Pats who arrive at the Showgrounds next Friday at 8pm Report by : Aengus Lyons
