Sligo Rovers have announced that the very popular defender Keith Foy has been released from his contract. A firm fans favourite since joining the club in 2006, his left foot proved the undoing of manies a defence either with his deadly accurate passing or his clinical finishing from set-pieces.
A member of the Irish under 16 European Championship winning team in 1998, scoring the winner in the final he also had a spell with Nottingham Forest before returning to the eircom league. Despite being a regular in his first season with the club, his appearances were kept to a minimum recently since Chris Butler secured the left back position.
Manager Paul Cook commented that 'unfortunately we have had to let Keith go due to the financial constraints that we are now facing. He is a good player and I know he will do a job for whatever club that he signs for and I know that everyone at the club will wish him all the best in his future career."
