A "Goal of the Month" contender from Romauld Boco helped Rovers on their way to 4-0 victory over a battling Cobh Ramblers side which sees Paul Cook's men leapfrog over Shamrock Rovers into 6th place
Report courtesy of RTE.ie Cobh Ramblers remain rooted to the bottom of the eircom League of Ireland Premier Division after a 4-0 defeat to Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds. A wonder goal from Romuald Boco, added to first goals of the season from Gavin Peers and David McDaid, saw the home side leapfrog Shamrock Rovers to sixth spot in the table, with Conor O'Grady putting the icing on the cake with a late fourth strike. Rovers welcomed Mauro Almeida back from suspension in place of defender Chris Butler as the only change to the side that beat UCD last time out. The unfortunate Butler has been ruled out for the remainder of the season as a result of a car crash last weekend. Cobh made three changes to the team that earned a draw with Cork City - Greg O'Halloran was suspended, and Graham Cummins and Ken Coleman dropped to the bench as Colin O'Brien, Daryl Kavanagh and Alan Carey all returned to the starting line-up. A dull first half produced few chances, although Sligo were lucky not to conceded a penalty when the lively Daryl Kavanagh, one of three changes to the Cobh team, looked to have been tripped in the area. Despite this setback, Cobh still made a bright start to the second period, with Davin O'Neill skilfully breaking down the right before sending an inviting ball into the area. Unfortunately for Cobh, Rovers defender Seamus Coleman was well-positioned to clear the danger. But Peers made the breakthrough for Rovers on 56 minutes, when he got the slightest touch in front of goal to direct Brian Cash's in-swinging corner to the net. The goal managed to spur the visitors into a bit of life, and Ross Gaynor again opened up the Rovers rearguard down the right, only for his shot to creep agonisingly past the far post. Substitute Graham Cummins was involved in creating Cobh's best chance of an equaliser when he laid Davin O'Neill's cross into Colin O'Brien's path on 74 minutes, but the former Cork City man missed the target from ten yards. And Rovers made them rue this miss when Boco picked up possession just inside the box, and brilliantly dipped a curling shot over McCarthy and under the crossbar on 78 minutes. Boco was also involved in the third when he linked up with Seamus Coleman on the right, before substitute David McDaid finished the resulting cross to the net. And O'Grady sealed the triumph with two minutes remaining as he directed Richie Ryan's free-kick to the net.
