Letterkenny Rovers emerged victorious at the Showgrounds 3-2 tonight in the under-19 Elite Northern Division.
The Sligo Rovers side were missing several players who were involved in the friendly against Accrington Stanley yesterday. Jack Burke made his first start of the season in goals.
The visitors got off to a great start and took the lead with less than a minute played.
And that lead was doubled on 26 minutes when a scramble occured in the Rovers box led to the ball eventually being headed into the net. Rovers failed to seriously trouble Letterkenny in the first half and went in 2-0 down.
The Donegal side had a player sent off just two minutes into the second half and shortly after the Bit o'Red took advantage when a well played ball over the top was volleyed in by Mark Hannon for his second goal of the season.
With 64 minutes played Rovers almost got level but Connolly's shot from distance came back off the bar.
The decisive goal came two minutes from the end when Letterkenny struck again to stretch their lead to two goals.
Rovers got a goal back in stoppage time when Oisin Connolly headed home from a corner for what is also his second goal since joining the club.
That was the final play of the game and Rovers slipped to their third defeat of the season.
