Rovers’ under-19s suffered their second home loss of the year in a 3-0 defeat to Bohemians.

The Rovers team was slightly changed from their last game against Finn Harps. Frempong and Carney come in for Birrane and Hunt and Kennoy in for Oision Connolly, who was originally scheduled to start but he suffered an injury in the pre-match warm-up which ruled him out.

The game was very back and forth in the first half with neither team being able to break through. Rovers’ best chance of the half came when the Bohemians keeper made a great save following Paul Doyle’s shot from just outside the box on the 21st minute mark.

Doyle went close again just before the half time whistle after a great one-two with Kennoy but his effort went just wide of the post, leaving the sides level going in to the second half.

The second half started just like the first with a lot of back and forth play and neither team being able to find that elusive last pass. That was until Bohemians broke down the wing and winger Darragh Brennan somehow managed to get a cross in which landed perfectly on Dean Casey’s right foot just on the edge of the six yard box. He smashed home giving the visitors the lead just past the hour mark.

Bohemians found their second just three minutes later, with a magnificent strike from Dylan Travers, after a clearance from a corner which was struck first time on the half volley by Travers from just inside the Rovers half, looped in over Burke giving the Dubliners a two goal lead, after a truly unstoppable strike.

The visitors put the final nail in the coffin in the 75th minute when Casey got his second goal of the game through a well-taken free kick which found the back of the net from the edge of the Rovers box. Despite being three down a determined Rovers still pushed forward, but looked to lack that final touch in the last third and Bohemians came away with an undeserved three goal win.

Rovers will try to bounce back in the next game, away to Longford in two weeks.

Rovers: Burke, Kennoy (Doherty 73), Taheny (c), McCallion, Borotto, Walsh, Frempong, Doyle (O'Donoghue 58), Morley (Hannon 58), Place (Birrane 73), Carney (Hunt 58).
