Rovers’ under-17s clinched a first home win of the season following a terrific defensive performance.
Rovers took the lead early on following winger Gary Higgins’s great run down and low cross which was hit home by Dillon Munnelly just three minutes into the game.
One minute later Rovers got their second when James McGrath capitalised on a defensive mix up and hit home on the second time of asking, giving Rovers a two goal lead just five minutes after kick-off.
Rovers nearly got a third just five minutes later when Mark Byrne found Captain Ruadhan Feeney behind the Dundalk defence, but a great save held Rovers lead to just two.
In the 20th minute Dundalk shocked Rovers after a well swung in corner somehow found its way into the net giving Dundalk a lifeline.
Twenty minutes later, Dundalk nearly levelled it from another corner; following a scramble in the box Jack Keaney cleared what looked like a certain goal off of the Rovers goal line to keep it two-one to Rovers at half-time.
Rovers started the second half the brightest and eventually broke down the Dundalk defence in the 63rd minute when some great build-up play resulted in Mark Byrne going one-on-one with the keeper and coolly tucking it home to regain their two goal lead.
Things were made a lot more nerve racking for Rovers when Dundalk found a way back into the game with just twenty minutes left.
Luckily, Rovers held on for the last twenty minutes with a magnificent defensive performance giving them the three-two win and the much-needed three points.
