Sligo Rovers under-17s earned a massive win to make it into the semi-finals of the first ever Mark Farren Memorial Cup.
Rovers defeated Derry City 4-0 at The Showgrounds in the last eight.
There was no goals at half-time but striker Mark Byrne quickly changed that in the second half giving the Bit o’Red the lead.
Mayo’s Byrne then got his second of the night to continue his good season and double the lead.
The third goal came from centre-back John Mahon as the game entered the final 15 minutes.
That wasn’t it as team captain Ruadhan Feeney broke forward from midfield in the dying minutes to put the seal on the win over the Candystripes.
Rovers will be joined in the semis by Cobh Ramblers, Bohemians and St. Patrick’s Athletic with the draw to be made on Friday at 11am.
In a return to league football Rovers will go to Longford Town on Sunday afternoon with the fight for play-off places (top four) very much on.
Three of the team from the night were also names in the Ireland under-17 national team that will play a friendly with Bohemians under-19s Wednesday August 24. They are Lorcan Callaghan, Thierry Baba and Mark Byrne.
