Rovers got a second win of pre-season 2016 running our comfortable 3-0 winners over the Irish Defence Forces at The Showgrounds.
The game played on the astro pitch was level at half-time but the Bit o’Red pulled away in the second half for the win.
Chris Lyons was the man with the game’s first shot as he showed good feet to move into the penalty area however he couldn’t keep his attempt down to hit the target on 12 minutes.
Kieran Sadlier threatened for the first time on 22 as he managed to get a shot away from near the end-line but it clipped the upright and went wide.
Liam Martin had a chance ten minutes later when a Raff Cretaro cross found him in the Defence Forces box but it ended off-target.
Cretaro has his own effort with a header that went just too high, Tim Clancy had found him with a delivery.
The Defence Forces kept Rovers at bay until half time and in the early stages of the second half as plenty of substitutions were made.
A free-kick on 70 minutes saw Dave Robertson’s team almost break the deadlock, Sadlier took a shot at goal from it but for the second time in the game the woodwork denied him.
A minute later Jimmy Keohane was dragged down right in front of goal to give Rovers a penalty. It was sadlier who stepped up and he beat the keeper to take the chance to get his first goal of pre-season.
He almost had another with 15 minutes to go but his powerful shot was pushed away for a corner impressively by the keeper.
On 81 minutes a deep ball was fumbled by the Defence Forces keeper, it dropped right at the feet of a trialist in the Rovers side and he put the ball away to make it 2-0.
He got his second with a fine 20-yard strike two minutes from the end which wrapped up the win.
