Sligo Rovers Golf Classic

The 11th Annual Sligo Rovers Golf Classic was held at County Sligo Golf Club on 20 June and set a record for the number of teams taking part in the event.
 
The weather, while not ideal, did not deter a total of 53 teams enjoying the magnificent course in a stableford format competition, which proved very popular with golfers, many of whom travelled from all over the country. 
 
The winning team comprised of four golfers from Claremorris GC in Mayo.
 
Seamus Gallagher, Des Griffith, Martin Higgins and Danny Mc Hugh accumulated a magnificent score of 94 points who edged out a team from Bundoran GC, Shane Feeney, Cillian McGowan, Tom Hayes and Greg McGlone.
 
The 11th Annual Classic, organised by Vincent Nally and his volunteer team, raised €8,500 this year and a total of €167,000 over the 11 Classics held so far. 
 
Rovers chairman Tony Quinn thanked the organisers of the classic, the host Club, players and all associated with the day's play.
 
He said: "On behalf of Sligo Rovers I wish to express the committee’s appreciation for another fantastic Golf Classic today and especially to Vincent Nally and his team. The money raised will be of huge benefit to the club and year-after-year it has proven a wonderfully organised and enjoyable occasion. 
 
Terry Brady, Captain County Sligo Golf Club, thanked the teams for their co-operation during the course of play, which led to a most enjoyable days golf for all the participants. 
 
He wished Rovers manager Ian Baraclough and the team every success in the future and we thank him for the wonderful reception given to the Bit o' Red.
