Djilali signs for Sligo Rovers

Midfielder Kieran Djilali has signed for Sligo Rovers, the club can confirm.

The former Crystal Palace, Portsmouth and AFC Wimbledon winger joins on a one-year-deal with an option for a further year.

Djilali has already featured in a friendly match for Rovers against Castlebar Celtic and joins ahead of this Friday’s Airtricity League match with Derry City.

Speaking at Monday night’s Setanta Cup quarter-final first leg match with Glentoran, where he was presented to The Showgrounds crowd, the 22-year-old said:

“I’m very pleased that the deal has been done. I feel like it is a great place to be and it looks like a growing club. It’s a club that is on the up and I think I can really enjoy my football here. When I came over the boys, the manager, the board and everyone made me feel welcome. It seems like a real family club, a place I can enjoy my football and get back to my best. I’m hoping to get a starting place as soon as possible by training well, playing well and the rest will go from there really."

When asked what he will bring to the Rovers squad, Djilali said: “I like running with the ball, I can score goals, I can create attacking play but I also want to work hard for the team and I want to be a real team player. I want to retain the league here with Sligo Rovers and maybe win a cup or two along the way.

"Everyone is going to be out for us. I think the boys know that, but from what I’ve seen in training since I’ve been here is that everyone looks just as hungry as they would have been last season. It’s a good time be coming in.

“I know quite a few good players have come from the League of Ireland to play in the Premier League or the Championship. I know that the standard is pretty high and I saw it for myself in the training sessions and the game I’ve played since I’ve been here. I’m really looking forward to being involved. I’m really pleased that I’m here”
