McMillan has surgery on knee injury

Sligo Rovers defender Evan McMillan has had surgery on a minor knee injury.

McMillan sustained a knock a number of weeks ago and underwent the procedure on Tuesday.

Rovers manager Ian Baraclough said: "We pinpointed this period as the time to address it. You wouldn’t have been able to tell from the matches and it is a credit to Evan that he has performed so well when carrying a knock.

"But the risk of further damage was going to become greater and we felt it was correct for Evan to have surgery now and start his recovery. It was a minor operation and we hope that he will be available again in four to five weeks all being well."

Jeff Henderson started last Monday's 4-0 win over Mervue United alongside McMillan and it is expected he will keep his place to partner Gavin Peers in Friday's match with Limerick.

Baraclough stated: "The three centre-halves of Gavin Peers, Evan and Jeff Henderson have battled each other tremendously so far this season and it has been a difficult choice to make. Jeff has done really well when coming into the team.

"Each player has understood when they’ve missed out on the starting line-up throughout the campaign and I know Evan will be behind Jeff now. That is how our squad is, it is tight-knit and there is a collectiveness in the group. As we always say, it is a squad game and every player has a part to play."

Henderson has made 14 appearances this season and scored the winning goal against this Friday’s opponents in the first meeting of  the team in The Showgrounds.
