RIP Andy Tiernan

Today the club mourns one of our most dedicated volunteers with the passing of groundsman Andy Tiernan.

Andy was one of the most familiar faces with the club such was the number of hours, day, weeks, months and years he spent perfecting The Showgrounds surface and ensuring each match night the Bit o’ Red players would have the best possible tool to succeed.

Andy’s passion with Sligo Rovers was the up keep and maintenance of our beloved home but his iconic stature with the club is not brought by any single deed.

It is a spirit embodied by the insurmountable work he gave to the club over decades of service as well as humour, grace and as a friend to so many faces associated with the club.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Andy as a colleague and an inspirational figure at the club. But we also extremeley proud to witness each match in The Showgrounds of how Andy played a immense role in ensuring the ground stands as one of the outstanding facilities in Irish football.

We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Funeral details:  Reposing at the Nazareth House Chapel from 6pm on Thursday, with Liturgy of Prayers at 8pm. Removal from the Nazareth House Chapel at 11.15am on Friday to St. Anne’s Church, Sligo, to arrive for Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon, with burial immediately afterwards in Sligo Cemetery. We share with you this wonderful photo that will undoubtedly be a familiar memory of Andy Tiernan. May he rest in peace.
