Rovers record win in UCD

Sligo Rovers passed their College exam with flying colours, earning a 3-0 victory at The UCD Bowl thanks to second half goals from Kieran Djilali and Joseph Ndo.

Following a first half where chances were few and far between, Sligo took the lead on 50 minutes with a wonder strike from Kieran Djilali.

A cross from Aaron Greene was only half-cleared by the UCD defence and when it dropped to Djilali he made no mistake with a dipping volley past Ger Barron that was right out of the top drawer.

Rovers doubled their lead on 65 minutes courtesy of Joseph Ndo. He saw his corner drift over Barron’s head and directly into the goal, and Sligo, having had a frustrating first-half were suddenly looking very comfortable at 2-0.

The first half was all but half an hour old before the first real chance of the game. A miskick by Barron went to Greene inside the area. He unselfishly squared it for Danny North, whose effort was goalbound until the headed intervention of Hugh Douglas on the UCD line.

Sligo were much the better side in the second half and dominated territory and possession and having turned that dominance into the tangible benefit of a two-goal lead inside 20 minutes were content to keep possession for the remainder of the half.

They continued to look dangerous and wrapped up the win with a third goal one minute from time. Aaron Greene steamed into the UCD box before releasing Danny North, who had played well all evening and deservedly slotted home the third from close range.
