Chairman: Backing at Drogheda game can inspire us

Sligo Rovers chairman Dermot Kelly has thanked supporters for their backing of the team last Monday night against Drogheda United in The Showgrounds.

A crowd of close to 2,000 home supporters attended the Monday fixture following an appeal to rally behind the team over the next number of games following a disappointing start to the league campaign.

The Bit o' Red face a number of matches in the remainder of the month and the chairman said the support of the entire club can make a difference.

He said: “We asked for our fans to really make that extra effort for a midweek fixture and they did so in tremendous fashion.

“It was heartening to see such great backing for the players and it will make us stronger. Before the game I described it as a moment when Sligo Rovers needed Sligo. The belief behind us can only inspire the team in the upcoming games.

“The Good Friday fixture against UCD will be an appreciation for the families supporting Sligo Rovers.

“The entire match night is dedicated to them and we are thrilled to offer thousands of young fans The Showgrounds experience.”
