New look Rovers for new season

We continue a look at reasons to Back the Bit o'Red in 2015, today we discuss the new look Rovers will be adopting for the new season.

For the 2015 season Sligo Rovers will return to wearing striped jerseys.

Both the home and away kits will feature a striped design. The home in the traditional red and white with the away jersey in blue and white stripes.

Rovers have historically alternated between wearing red and white striped jerseys and also all red jerseys. The past five years have seen the club adopt all red home kits and now we return to wearing stripes.

The Bit o’Red have worn stripes on many of the most historic occasions in the club’s history including the 1977 league winning team and the 1983 team who won the FAI Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

Here we have put together a collection of some of the most notable striped jerseys worn by Rovers over the past 40 years starting with the league winning team right through to the most recent time in 2009.

The return to stripes has proved very popular with fans as the move is seen to return to what is the club’s traditional look.

The unveiling of the jersey was greeted with an overwhelmingly positive response.

Here is some of the reaction on social media to the jerseys.

The new look was also welcomed by the club’s players when the jersey was launched at our club store.

Alan Keane said: “The jersey is lovely, obviously the stripes are back. I think the majority of the fans are happy with that. It’s a lovely jersey, both home and away, and I am looking forward to wearing it come the new season in 2015.”

New keeper Ryan Coulter also said that he’s a fan of the new jersey: “I like it a lot. I saw online that a lot of the fans are happy to see the club go back to stripes which we had a number of years ago.”

David Cawley was also impressed: “I like the jersey and the whole shop here. The stripes are part of the history of the club. This is the first time I have got to see it in person so I like it a lot, I like it more than last year’s one.”

One of the club’s young stars Ruairi Keating is also liking the new look Rovers: “The jersey is great, I love it. I like the stripes and I think I prefer it to last year’s.”

Gavin Peers told us: “The jersey is nice. Obviously the same as the home one but it's red. I think in my first game we were in stripes so it's nothing different to me.”

Keith Ward also spoke at the opening: “I saw the jersey a few weeks ago on Instagram and I really liked it. I like the stripes. I think it's very nice, both the home and away strips.”
