New format and fixtures for Under-19 League

A newly revamped structure to the Under-19 league has been announced ahead of next month's 2014/2015 season opener.

Sligo Rovers, who battled hard against relegation for much of last season's Elite Division securing their safety with a 3-2 win against Salthill Devon on the final day of the season, will now compete in the new Northern Elite Division.

The old two tier three division system has been scrapped in favour of two Elite divisions which are regionalised into a Northern and Southern division. The U-19 league was introduced in 2011 and this is the first time a change has been made to its structure.

A total of 22 clubs will compete across the two divisions, with each team playing each other at home and away once. The season starts on the weekend of 31st August and will run until 29th March 2015, with the league quarter finals taking place on 12th April, followed by the semi-finals and final taking place on 19th April and 26th April respectively.

The top four in each division will compete in those finals on a North Vs. South basis in the quarter finals, with the semi-finals being an open draw.

The winner of the final will be crowned overall winners of the U-19 league championship. All clubs will also compete in the Enda McGuill cup competition, with the first round taking place on the weekend of 26th October.

Players such as Ruairi Keating, Regan Donelon, Gary Boylan and Liam Flately have all come through the club's U-19 structure in recent times and the Bit O'Red will be assembling their U-19 squad over the coming weeks. They will be managed by Ciaran Kelly and Gavin Dykes once again for the coming season.
