Newstalk become Event Partner vs Rosenborg

Newstalk, the independent national news and sport station, has agreed a sponsorship deal with Sligo Rovers to be event partner for the club’s Europa League return tie against Rosenborg at The Showgrounds on Thursday.

As part of the tie-up, Newstalk listeners will be able to participate in competitions for match tickets, the station will feature exclusive interviews with key Sligo Rovers personnel and Newstalk will provide extensive match coverage and build-up.

Sligo Rovers chairman Dermot Kelly said “This is the first time the club has struck an event partner relationship like this and we’re delighted that a major national media organisation is recognising the historic nature of Thursday’s game.”

Newstalk’s Off the Ball is the most popular national sports show and winner of a record 9 PPI radio awards.

The station’s audience share is growing, helped by recruiting the likes of Brian O’ Driscoll and Pat Kenny.  The sponsorship deal with Sligo Rovers will be seen a further example of Newstalk’s policy of building its audience share in the regions.

Newstalk also has Sligo connections.  The CEO of the Communicorp Group, the station’s parent company, is Sligo-born Gervaise Slowey.  Her parents, Yvonne and the late Harry Slowey, owned a pharmacy in Market Cross and the family are long-standing Sligo Rovers supporters.
