Golf Classic proves biggest ever event

A record 104 teams took part in the Sligo Rovers Golf Classic this past week in Rosses Point, making it the most successful event in it's history.

It proved a competitive but also enjoyable two days of golf with day one being claimed by Jim Ricard, Jim Bowe, Jay Rush and N. Kilroy with 95 points (pictured right).

Conditions were good for play and it proved a brilliant start to the event. Rovers manager John Coleman made one of his first public addresses after the day's play as he thanked the players and sponsors for their support, saying the importance of their work was not lost on him even just one week into his role in Sligo.

Onto day two and it was another tight leaderboard with the team of Kevin McCarthy , Niall Walsh, J Connolly and M.Flynn coming out on top.

Ronnie Whelan was among the players on course and he was in the clubhouse afterwards for a presentation and a question and answers with supporters, with the World Cup and Liverpool top of the agenda in an entertaining evening.

The club wish to thanks all the players, sponsors and associates for this fantastic two-day Golf Classic and the organising team headed by Vincent Nally and Glen Gilmartin for their magnificent work that is invaluable to the Bit o' Red.
