Accrington Stanley friendly this Sunday
Sligo Rovers will host Accrington Stanley in a friendly match at the Showgrounds this Sunday at 5pm.
The game will be preceded by the official opening of the Sean Fallon Centre at 4pm. The Sean Fallon Centre is a new state of the art all-weather facility at the Showgrounds. A new full-size grass pitch is also being installed beside the all-weather pitch. It is the latest phase of the club’s development of the Showgrounds.
It is being named in honour of Sligo-born Celtic FC legend Sean Fallon who played at the Showgrounds early in his career before going on to play for Celtic and then be their assistant manager when they won the European Cup in 1967.
The opening of the facility will be performed by Minister for Sport Michael Ring and Myra Fallon, widow of Sean. There will also be directors from Celtic FC in attendance on Sunday.
Opposition Accrington Stanley are managed by former Sligo Rovers management duo John Coleman and Jimmy Bell. They currently sit 11th in Sky Bet League 2 having won all three games since Coleman and Bell took over.
Their squad includes Sean Maguire who was with Rovers on loan from West Ham United up until the end of August this year. He has since joined Accrington and scored on his debut against Northampton Town. The squad also includes Republic of Ireland under-21 international John O’Sullivan who is at the club on loan from Blackburn Rovers. They will also have James Gray and Shane McCartan as part of their 18 man squad who are both Northern Ireland under-21 internationals.
Tickets for the game will cost just €10 for adults and €5 for under-16s and will be available on the day. All proceeds from the game will go towards the completion of additional work to the Sean Fallon Centre.
You can win a pair of tickets for the game all week on the Francie Boylan show on Ocean FM between 12pm and 4pm. They are running a competition where you have to name the Sligo Rovers goal being scored based on a clip of Ocean FM commentary.
