Hollywood strikes as Rovers U19s are beaten by Bohs U19s

Sligo Rovers U19s began their new Elite North Division season with a 1-0 defeat to Bohemians U19s on the Showgrounds AstroTurf on Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Hollywood's excellent strike from the edge of the area just before half time was enough to see the Dalymount side take all three points. This, despite a battling second half performance from Ciaran Kelly's young charges.

During an even opening period which saw the Bit O'Red produce plenty of impressive football, it was the away side who almost captured the lead early on. A corner from the left evaded two Rovers defenders before a Bohs player headed narrowly over Adam Chambers' crossbar.

Rovers' Liam Flately was unlucky not to open the scoring mid-way through the half as he was denied by the Bohs goalkeeper following his effort from 20 yards.

Ross Taheny was unable to get the decisive touch to Gary Armstrong's free kick as Rovers continued to search for the lead.

Cathal Carney went close for Rovers before Bohs took the lead in the dying moments of the opening half as Hollywood's vicious strike from the angle gave Harrigan little chance.

Paul Doyle was unfortunate not level the game for Sligo early in the second half as he headed wide of the Bohs goal.

Rovers cut the Bohs defence open time and time again during the course of the second half but were unable to find the equaliser.

Armstrong and Kyle Harrigan both went close as the young Rovers starlets pressed the Dubliners high up the pitch, but a leveller remained elusive as Bohs ran out the winners on the slenderest of scorelines.

Rovers U19s' next game is against Dundalk and is scheduled to take place this coming Saturday afternoon at 2pm at Oriel Park.

Rovers: Chambers, Harrigan, McCallion, Doherty, Taheny, McManus, Flatley, Kilcawley, Carney, Armstrong, Doyle

Subs: Burke, Kennoy, McCarrick, Walsh, Anderson, Hannon.
