Micky Adams appointed manager

Sligo Rovers are pleased to announce the appointment of Micky Adams as the club's new manager and Alan Rogers as his assistant and coach.

The new management team will take up their positions immediately and will prepare the team for Saturday's home game against Cork City at The Showgrounds. The appointments will be reviewed at the end of the season and the agreed priorities are preserving Sligo Rovers Premier Division status and continuing our involvement in the FAI Cup.

The club wishes to put on record its appreciation of the work done by the interim management team in recent weeks but the FAI's insistence that the club appoint a management team with the appropriate qualifications within 60 days made their ongoing management of the team impossible.

Micky Adams was involved with eight clubs during his 19 year playing career, this included 144 appearances for Southampton.  He has managed several leading clubs including Leicester City, Coventry City, Brighton and Hove Albion, Port Vale and Sheffield United.

Alan Rogers is also a former defender, he made over 130 appearances for Nottingham Forest and won three England under-21 Caps. The incoming management duo have made it clear that they see the challenge at Sligo Showgrounds as a test of their experience and ambitions.

After the most successful period in the club's history, this is proving a difficult season for Sligo Rovers. Sligo Rovers management shares the sense of disappointment and frustration of the club's fans. Their generous response to the recent annual draw produced a badly needed €50,000. This response, at a time when the team is struggling, is eloquent testimony to the commitment of our supporters.

The club hopes the new management team will provide the badly needed stability, boost to morale and improved results. We are a community-owned club: the Showgrounds is in the heart of Sligo and our combined efforts have built what is the best League of Ireland venue in the country. The club's voluntary management committee remains committed to providing a team and a style of football that bring pride to our region. We hope that we can all unite as we begin our journey back to the top of Irish football.
