Supporter group launch Rally Around Rovers appeal

As Sligo Rovers supporters we have been asked by the club's management committee to assist at this challenging time. We want to contribute in a positive manner, working independent of the management committee and in conjuction as well. We have agreed to become involved because, like all members of the Sligo Rovers family, we love the club and want to protect it for present and future generations.

Our two priorities are to keep Sligo Rovers in the Premier Division and to get the club's finances in order. To achieve this we will need the backing of every loyal fan to help sort out the challenges: our promise is to keep supporters fully informed at every stage of this initiative

We need to give Micky Adams and Alan Rogers every possible support. They have a huge task but possess the capabilities to bring about a new and exciting phase for Sligo Rovers. They deserve our full backing.

The most immediate challenge facing us all, the supporters of the club, is to strengthen the finances. Results and success on the field influence club finances and vice-versa.
Now is the time to start tackling and dealing with the problems of this disappointing season and a projected deficit. We want to start turning it around now - we cannot stand by and let the drift in finances and results continue. The history of Sligo Rovers stands as testimony to the determination of generations of supporters to maintain the club at the forefront of Irish football. Our ambition is find the most positive way to draw a line under this year's disappointments and it is in the best interests of the long-term future of our club.

We are asking fans to commit €10 per week for the next ten weeks to strengthen the resources available. This support can be given in weekly instalments over ten weeks or in a one-off €100 payment - to Rally Around Rovers.

We will personally acknowledge every person that contributes. Each individual will receive a memento, a unique commemorative badge, as a reminder of how people stood by the club when support was so needed.

We will keep fans informed about how the campaign is progressing. If 400 members of the Sligo Rovers fan base are willing to support us, we will raise €40,000. If 600 fans can make a commitment that would gather €60,000. We have set ourselves a deadline of gathering €40,000 in one-off payments or €10 weekly pledges by September 1st. We promise we will be part of the group.

Seven supporters make up our fundraising sub-committee - Tony Quinn, Vincent Nally, Mark Cummins, Tommie Gorman, Marcel Gordon and in Dublin, Dermot Kelly and Rory Houston. The group will liase with members of the Sligo Rovers management committee - Paddy Houze, Robbie Fitzpatrick, Andy Dodd and Brendan Lacken.

Contributions can be made in several ways. All members of the fundraising committee can be contacted via details at the bottom of the page.

All those who join this campaign will be invited to attend and contribute to this evaluation process.

We love our club - Sligo would be a lesser place without it. When The Showgrounds is hopping, Sligo is hopping.

We are determined to make The Showgrounds a source of pride again. That's why we are asking for your help in what is difficult but necessary work. Together we believe that we can make a difference and turn the situation around.
