Under-17s lose to Mervue

Sligo Rovers under-17s played their first ever home game this weekend losing a high-scoring encounter 3-2 to Mervue United at The Showgrounds astro pitch.

Mervue took the lead early in the scond half though the Bit o'Red got back on terms shortly after through Thierry Baba.

It didn't stay level for long as a penalty was conceded within a minute to give the Galway club the lead again.

Striker Gary Higgins then scored with a header and the game was even again at 2-2.

However with only a few minutes remaining Mervue went in front for the third and final time to take away all three points.

The under-17s will look to get their first points of the season on Wednesday week, August 26th, in their next match away to Shamrock Rovers.
