Report: Goalfest for Rovers in Ballisodare

 

Sligo Rovers continued the impressive start to pre-season by hammering Ballisodare United 12-1 this afternoon at Abbey Drive Park.

Owen Heary’s team have already had the goals flowing with six in the two pre-season games played so far and added to that in Ballisodare.

The game took place as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations for the junior club which Rovers were delighted to be a part of.

The scoring started on 20 minutes from Raffaele Cretaro. Seven minutes later the lead was doubled when Keith Ward tapped in from Ruairi’s Keating’s pass.

Steven Beattie got his first on 36 minutes putting in the rebound from a Keating shot and two minutes later he had his second.

A minute before half-time a scramble in the Ballisodare box led to Gary Armstrong making it 5-0.

 

 

The first goal of the second half was for the hosts when Jordan O’Boyle scored on 56 but just six minutes after Keating got himself a goal to restore the five goal advantage.

With 20 minutes to go winger Steven Beattie got his hat-trick. A minute later Dinny Corcoran got the next goal shortly after coming off the bench.

It became 9-1 on 76 minutes when Eoin Wearen followed up his goal against Waterford with another fine goal.

Dinny Corocran got himself a hat-trick with his fourth and fifth goals of pre-season on 81 and 87 minutes.

The 12th and final goal came with two minutes remaining from another sub Kevin Devaney, the first he has scored so far.
