U19s beaten in Longford

A ten man Sligo Rovers U19 side fell to a defeat in their Northern Elite Division season on Sunday afternoon as Longford Town U19s ran out 3-1 winners at City Calling Stadium in Longford.
The midlanders had Daryl Carrigy to thank as he produced a wonderful hat-trick to hand Longford their second win of the season, while substitute Cathal Carney netted a consolation goal for the Bit O'Red late on. Rovers had defender Keelan Kennoy dismissed in the first half after he upended a Longford player in the box, but Rovers net minder Jack Burke pulled off a wonderful save to deny the Town penalty taker.
The home side grabbed the lead with five minutes played following a mix-up in the Rovers defence, Carrigy doing well to slot the ball past Burke.
Longford were awarded a penalty on 14 minutes when Kennoy's attempted stretch for the ball resulted in the Longford attacker being brought to the ground, just as he prepared to shoot. The referee adjudged Kennoy to have denied a clear goal scoring opportunity and sent him to the stands.
But Burke stood tall to deny the penalty taker as he pushed the ball to safety.
Both Martin Walsh and Ryan O'Donoghue went close for Rovers before the break. Walsh did well to turn his man in front of the area, but his shot sailed over the Town crossbar. While O'Donoghue went close with a drive from distance, as the ball whistled past the post.
Darren Kilcawley and Liam Flatley went close for the away side as Rovers continued to press for an equaliser.
The Bit O'Red had what looked like a legitimate goal chalked off for a foul on the Longford goalkeeper with fifteen minutes left. Town doubled their lead from the next phase of play as Carrigy latched on to a long punt forward and chipped the ball over the helpless Burke.
Longford's win was confirmed late on when Carrigy secured his hat-trick as he latched on to a low cross from the right to tuck the ball past Burke.
Rovers grabbed a consolation goal deep into injury time as Cathal Carney made the most of a loose ball inside the area.
Team: Burke, O'Donoghue, Connolly, Taheny, Anderson, Kennoy, Kilcawley, Hannon, Doyle, Flatley, Walsh.
