U19s knocked out of Enda McGuill Cup

 
Sligo Rovers U19s were knocked out of the Enda McGuill Cup at the quarter-final stage on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten 3-0 by a strong St Patrick's Athletic side at the Showgrounds. 
 
Three goals, one a piece from Craig Hanlon, Darragh Markey and Stephen Ball were enough to see the Dublin side progress to the final four of the competition. 
 
Rovers had to endure plenty of pressure throughout, from a well-drilled Saints attack and Rory Feely was the first to go close for the away side as early as the fifth minute, but he couldn't direct his first time volley towards the Rovers goalmouth. 
 
The Bit O'Red settled and Darren Kilcawley forced Pat's 'keeper Doyle into a decent save shortly before Mark Hannon saw his header cleared off the line. 
 
Paul Rooney and Jamie McGrath both went close for the Inchicore side as the opening half wore on. The pressure eventually told on the stroke of half-time as Craig Hanlon's placed shot beat Jack Burke from just inside the box.
 
Hanlon and Burke both went close to doubling Pat's lead on 50 and 58 respectively. Rovers had Ryan O'Donoghue to thank just after the hour mark as he cleared a Hanlon effort of the Sligo goal-line. 
 
Pat's got their second on 80 minutes when Markey clipped the ball over Burke with ten minutes remaining, and Ball confirmed the Dublin side's passage to the semi-final as he sent the ball between the legs of Burke in injury time.  
 
Rovers return to league action on Saturday, January 31st next as they take on Finn Harps at the Showgrounds at 2pm.
