Donelon signs new contract

Sligo Rovers are delighted to announce that left-back Regan Donelon has signed a new contract to stay with the club for 2016.

Donelon is a product of the club’s underage system having played for the under-19s and after returning from a loan with Finn Harps appeared 15 times in 2015.

The Galway native made his debut in May 2014 but cemented his place in the first-team in the second half of this season with some impressive performances.

Donelon gave his reaction to signing to sligorovers.com “I am delighted to have signed with the club for next year. It’s good to have it sorted already. Once the season ended all I wanted was to stay here.”

Former Ireland under-19 international said he was happy with his own progress this year: “It wasn’t a good year for the club but I was very happy with my own progress. When I came back from Finn Harps all I wanted was to get in the team and play and that’s what I did.

“I definitely think we can do well again next year and in the future, that is what Sligo Rovers is all about. We just have to forget about this past season and push on and try to challenge near the top again.”

He joins Gary Boylan who has already committed his future to the Bit o’Red: “It is a big help to have other players around who I have come through with. I get on really well with Gary and it’s great that he will be here next year as well.”
