Superb Rovers overcome Pat's
St Patrick's Athletic 0-2 Sligo Rovers
A superb second half performance from Sligo Rovers saw the Bit O'Red overcome the challenge of St Patrick's Athletic at Richmond Park on Friday night last.
Two goals from substitute Dinny Corcoran has put Micky Adams' side in a commanding position in the bid to avoid a relegation play-off. Rovers now sit three points ahead of Drogheda in eleventh with a vastly superior goal difference going into next week's final round of SSE Airtricity League Premier Division games.
Only on the pitch eight minutes, Corcoran made the most of Conor O'Malley's failure to clear Jennison Myrie-Williams' cross to head the ball home despite the best intentions of the surrounding Saints defenders. Corcoran notched his 12th league goal of the campaign with 15 remaining when, after a decisive counter attack, Williams was brought down by O'Malley inside the box. Corcoran hammering home from 12 yards to secure a precious three points.
Rovers had goalkeeper Richard Brush to thank on two occasions as he kept a much deserved clean sheet.
He miraculously kept out a point blank effort from Christy Fagan on 25 before pushing Aaron Greene's goal bound effort around the post on 48.
Rovers' next and final game of the season is this Friday night when we entertain Limerick at the Showgrounds. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
