Schlingermann signs to 2018

Sligo Rovers are delighted to have signed goalkeeper Micheal Schlingermann to a new contract at The Showgrounds.

The deal will keep Schlingermann with the club until the end of the 2018 season.

It continues the work done which has already seen Gary Boylan, Kieran Sadlier, Tobi Adebayo-Rowling, Gary Armstrong and Daniel Kearns signed for next season.

Schlingermann returned at the end of 2015 to the club where he started his career in 2009.

In doing so he became one of Dave Robertson’s first signings after his appointment as Bit o’Red manager.

The Kiltimagh keeper was named as the best in the league in his position in the 2015 season by his fellow players while with Drogheda United.

He has continued that form into this season missing just one game so far through injury to make a total of 25 appearances with nine clean sheets.

The 25 year-old passed the 150 career appearances mark earlier this season.

Dave Robertson shared his delight at securing the signature of Schlingermann.

He identified Schlingermann as a key part of the club’s future.

He told sligorovers.com “I am over the moon with this signing. Micheal is a key part of the project we have going on here. Moving forward we know what Micheal is capable of bringing to us. Goalkeeper is a massive position in any team and it important to have that secured.

“He has proven this year his value to the team with his performances, particularly in some of the key games we have had. He will definitely be a key part of the future of this team.”

Robertson is delighted to continue adding players to longer term contracts to help maintain a strong squad:

“Getting players committed to longer contracts is what we are looking to do here. With it we can go into the next season in as strong a position as possible. When you have proven players like Micheal is makes sense to get them signed. It is great for the players and the supporters to know what we want for the future.”
