Clancy/Schlingermann preview season

Rovers’ duo Tim Clancy and Micheal Schlingermann were on the Final Whistle on Ocean FM to preview the new season.

The Bit o’Red kick-off the new season against Shamrock Rovers one week from today and both are excited about the opener after a good pre-season.

Tim Clancy, signed permanently for this season is excited about the young, attacking talent which has joined him in the squad: “It’s a very young squad but a good squad as well. We have a lot of attacking options, really entertaining and creative players going to make it very exciting for the fans to watch. There’s a lot of energy and pace and I’m sure there’ll be goals all-round the pitch this year.”

The first game sees him up against his former club: “It will give them a good taste of the league. You’d imagine Shamrock Rovers will be up near the top of the league as they have been the last few years so it will be a good test for us and a good marker and gauge to see where we are. We will be going into the game confident and looking to perform and get a good result.”

Having been at the club before Schlingermann knows an electric atmosphere awaits the team on opening night: “It’ll be a different environment to the Liverpool game. There was a lot of people there to see the excitement of new squad coming together and to see Liverpool. The rivalry between the two Rovers is the main thing on Saturday. It’s exciting times a head for the club. It’s a re-building process. We want to do as well as we can with the players we have. It goes without saying that every player wants to finish as high up the league as possible without being unrealistic.

“A good start is key. We do have a really difficult start with Shamrock Rovers and Bohs but then we have two local derbies in a week should create excitement if we can do well. If we get good results from the first four game that should set us up well.”
