Leahy signs at Showgrounds

Sligo Rovers are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Michael Leahy.

Leahy signs for the 2016 season following a successful trial which included playing in Rovers 7-0 pre-season win against Charlestown Athletic.

The 26 year-old has seven years’ experience in the SSE Airtricity League with U.C.D. and Limerick.

He began his career with U.C.D. in 2009 having spent his youth career at the renowned club Belvedere. That year he made his debut against Limerick in March and helped them to promotion.

By 2011 he was appointed club captain with the Students and was a fixture in the team until leaving at the end of the 2013 season having completed a Law Masters at the University.

Limerick signed the Dubliner and he spent 2014 there before coming back to U.C.D. again.

For his second spell in 2015, again as club captain, Leahy featured in all four games of their run in the Europa League against F91 Dudelange and Slovan Bratislava.

He has amassed a total of 138 appearances so far in his career between U.C.D. and Limerick.

The 6ft 1’ defender has scored eight goals in his career including a best of four last year.

Leahy is signing 18 made by Rovers for the 2016 season.
