Robertson adds Martin to attacking squad

Dave Robertson says he’s delighted to add further to his new Sligo Rovers squad with Liam Martin becoming the second player to commit in as many days.

Martin takes the number of confirmed signings up to eleven with more set to follow in the coming week as the team prepare to return for pre-season training on Monday.

Speaking about Martin Robertson said he brings exactly the type of attributes he’s been looking for: “He’s a quick, attacking, young player which fits the mould of what I want to bring here. He’s the type of player that we need to make sure that we have the strength and depth in the attacking areas and provides us with more options.”

This will be Martin’s second spell at The Showgrounds and he returns a more experienced player with two years regular football under his belt: “He has been here previously so he know what it is all about, he has even played for the club in European football. That means he knows exactly what to expect when he comes here. He will also be match sharp having been playing regularly since August in the Irish league. He will be fit and strong and he will also have improved from when he was last here two years ago. It’s a natural thing as players mature they will improve.

“The same as with every player though you never stop leaning and improving. I definitely feel that there is a feel for development further with Liam and that is very good for me. I will really enjoy working with Liam, he has a fantastic attitude. I am just really looking forward now to getting started on our preparations for the new season.”

Martin is signing eleven for the 2016 squad and Robertson is still working hard on bring in more players to add to what he has: “There are areas where we need to improve. I am hoping to add more strength to what we have defensively. Also I am looking at bring in another but of leadership particularly in the middle of the park. As well as Jeff Henderson being here we will have a few trialists here this week that I will look at and cast my eye over. Depending on how that goes they may be added but there will certainly be more to come over the next week.”
