Robertson: "Lot of potential in Lyons."

Dave Robertson is very pleased with the progress in building his new squad which took another step forward with the addition of Chris Lyons.

The forward adds to the attacking options at his disposal which has seen the likes of Jimmy Keohane and Kieran Sadlier already join with more set to follow shortly.

Speaking of Lyons Robertson says he has identified him as someone with the potential to be a terrific signing: “Chris is a player that I see a lot of potential in. I have seen that his link-up play in particular is excellent. We will work with him during the year to add more goals to his game but he is fully committed to the club and to working to improve. I think he will be an excellent player for us in the coming year.”

Lyons has spent time in his career as both a winger and through the middle but it’s up front where Robertson sees him fitting into his squad: “He will give us good versatility in the attacking areas of the pitch but primarily I see him as being a striker for us this year. He has a great attitude. When doing my research everyone I spoke to about him spoke very highly of him, both as a player and as a person. I think he will contribute a lot to our team this year.”

Reflecting on the progress made during the off-season is assembling his new Rovers squad Robertson is happy with the four new additions and six players which have been retained from 2015: “I am very happy with the signings we have made and how the squad is coming together. We have a couple of loan players that will be coming over from England that should be done shortly. I think the squad we have now has the potential to be very good and we will be adding to that soon. Slowly but surely it is all coming together and I am very happy with where we are at.”

Robertson has also taken the club’s under-19 side for some training sessions and has been impressed with the young talent there is: “Some of the under-19s have performed very well in training and with another year’s maturity they will become even better. There is a few really talented players in the squad with the potential to do very well in the game. From working with them I can see that there is some exceptional ones there and they will only improve with more coaching."
